Godfather Tour
half-day tour
Populated by less than 2000 souls and positioned on a hill just over 300 meters away on the slopes of the Peloritan mountains, overlooking the sea, Savoca is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Sicily.
By force of agro, the most relevant monuments are the mother church, dedicated to the Santissima Annunziata (16th century), the Augustinian convent, the church of the Santissima Trinità and the Norman castle (14th century), of which only ruins remain.
Like a balcony overlooking the Ionian sea, from its belvedere it is possible to admire the coast from Messina to Syracuse, with Taormina and Castelmola, the bay of Giardini-Naxos and the imposing mass of the volcano Etna.
In 1971, the historic center of Forza d’Agrò (together with that of nearby Savoca) was chosen by Francis Ford Coppola for the setting of numerous scenes featured in all the films of the Corleone family saga, starting with “The Godfather”.
